School Law Conference

Project Name: School Law Conference
Cost: $2,500
Recurring?: Not necessarily.
Description: LRP, the same organization that publishes specialedconnection.com and IDELR, conducts conferences for “school attorneys.” See for example, http://www.schoolattorneysconf.com/.

Notably, these conferences are very much directed to school board attorneys, i.e., the attorneys who represent schools in disputes with our constituents. For example, the upcoming conference (to be held in Houston in January 2016) has topics on the agenda such as “advising clients on walking the fine line between preparation and predetermination,” “how school districts can recover attorneys’ fees when they prevail,” and “social media and special education, how to advise your [school district] client.” (The full agenda is available at http://www.schoolattorneysconf.com/agenda.html).

Knowledge is power. Access to these programs and materials from “the other side” could be invaluable to parents, non-attorney parent advocates, and special education parent-side attorneys. Innisfree would send a special education attorney to this conference, who would attend all sessions, take careful notes, and bring back the materials to share.   Notes and materials would be made available to our constituents upon request.

Beneficiaries: Special education parent-side attorneys, special education non-attorney parent advocates, parents of children with disabilities. Innisfree would make these materials generally available to our constituents.
